A beautifully simple country style wedding in Essex, with Gemma Lawrence Photography

Rebecca and Howard have the most relaxed approach to wedding planning I’ve seen – the preparations took “about 6 months”, they spent as little as possible and rather than having a theme they styled their country style wedding day with the things they liked… including 1950s music, natural flowers (which I adore!) oh, and Landrovers!

Howard looks the part in a proper English bowler hat – I love it! And Rebecca is simply stunning in a gorgeous lace sleeved dress by Ellis Bridals. The images are wonderful, and the story of this wedding is one I love. It’s a simple, natural and relaxed wedding – from start to finish. It can take months and months of preparation to make a wedding look rustic, natural and simple… or it can actually be all of those things! Rebecca and Howard’s wedding is genuine and all the more beautiful for it.

Our wedding report: Rebecca & Howard

Wedding photographer’s website:

www.glweddingphotography.co.uk

Were you pleased with your wedding photographer?

Yes she was absolutely amazing! I hate having my photograph taken (to the point that we weren’t going to have a photographer) and Gemma could not have made me feel more at ease.

Wedding venue:

St Peters Church Thundersley, then my parent’s house. Marquee in the garden.

Can you describe your wedding in a single sentence?

Very relaxed

What was your reaction to seeing your wedding photos for the first time?

I loved them, they were natural and perfect, I hate posed photographs and Gemma captured the relaxed atmosphere perfectly.

Your wedding style and theme:

We didn’t really have a theme we just picked the things we liked, 1950’s music, natural flowers, Landrovers!

Any happy tears on the day?

Er, no! But we were happy 🙂

How did the two of you meet?

We went to school together, and got back in touch just over 4 years ago

How long did you spend planning your wedding?

Around 6 months

Best bit of budget advice?

We didn’t have a budget but planned to spend as little as possible as we just wanted to get married, not spend a fortune

Wedding invitations and on the day stationery:

I made everything

Did you fall in love with your wedding dress?

Yes it cost more than everything else

Wedding dress designer and bridal boutique:

Ellis – Bellissima Weddings South Woodham Ferrers

Glitz and sparkle: the bride’s accessories:

My father in law gave me my mother in law’s earrings and necklace to wear, it meant a great deal to me to be able to wear these on the day as she is no longer alive and could not share the day with us.

The groom wore:

A black hired suit

Beautiful bridesmaids: what did your best girl wear?

A dress she picked herself in Zara about 2 weeks before

Hair and make-up – did you DIY or hire a professional?

Did it myself

Wedding flowers:

Me and my mum did them

What do you remember most about the wedding ceremony?

I wondered why everyone gets so stressed about getting married! And that I was so happy to be married

General styling – did your venue need much decoration?

A few straw bales for seating, a marquee from Bees Knees Marquees. Bunting and wheat flowers to decorate.

The wedding cake: traditional or quirky?

It looked traditional from the front but had a Landrover driving up the back

Entertainment:

1950’s Band the Jay Jay’s from bands for hire

On the day tips and advice:

There’s no point getting stressed!

What’s the best thing about being married?

Just a nice feeling of contentment!
